Our Move

I hadn't realized how long ago i last made a blog post. So much has happened. About a year ago we made the decision to begin building our dream house. The process of choosing materials, granite, floors etc..etc.. was so much fun and such a blessing but the move was hard and soooo much work. You don't realize how much stuff you accumulate until you need to move and place everything in boxes. Well, we survived the move and are now pretty much unpacked and settled in. Here are some pictures of our journey.
I hope to start blogging more often as i venture and learn more about Surface Pattern Design. See you soon!

Carving Your Own Stamps

Ever feel like making your own rubber-stamps?

SKETCHES: I was working in my art journal the other day and felt like adding some wings to my design.I got out my sketchbook and drew some wing patterns. I thought it would be a great idea to create some rubber-stamps out of these designs so i can use them over and over in my mixed media art.

TRANSFER: I traced my sketches using some tracing paper and a charcoal pencil. This soft pencil helps make a nice transfer. I then placed my sketch facing down over a Speedball Carving Block. Gently i retraced over the wing to get a reverse design on the block.

CARVING: I then used used a Speedball Linoleum Cutter to carve out my design, switching blade size for large and small areas. I wanted to carve a positive image so i carved away the light areas of my image.

TRIMMING: I used a larger blade to trim off the excess and finished it off with scissors.

TESTING MY STAMP: I inked my stamps and stamped them on white paper to see if i needed to go back and carve some more. I was pleased with my design.

Time for stamping!!!

It finally arrived! My Very Big Sketch Book! I ordered it with the idea of keeping all of my sketches in one place. When i opened the Amazon box i was extremely surprised to see just how big this sketch book was. It is huge!!!

It contains 600 pages of acid free bright white paper. If you were wondering in ordering this sketch book you will not be disappointed! Can't wait to start sketching :)

Rubber-stamp Company Logo

I am in love with my new stamps! I took a Skillshare class called "Get Inked! Create Your Own Custom Rubber Stamp" by Teela Cunningham and learned how easy it was to order my very own rubber-stamps! She teaches you how to save and upload your artwork to Rubberstamps.net.
Here are the three that i created.

Now i can personalize and stamp away!:)

August is Art Appreciation Month

In honor of Art Appreciation Month, I have been graciously invited by Patience Brewster, to start a conversation about the wonderful artists that inspire us everyday. Patience is the artist behind the lovely Christmas ornaments her company has been producing since 2001. When she invited me to participate, i thought is was a chance to share with you about the artists who inspire me and a great opportunity to mention some of the very talented women artists i follow online.

Growing up i loved Monet, VanGogh and Degas. I could stare for hours at their beautiful use of color and brushstrokes. I also admired their creative thought process. They inspired me at a very young age to love color and appreciate art.

A few years back i walked into a bookstore and found a mixed media book by Kelley Rae Roberts called "Taking Flight". This book inspired my love for mixed media art.

I went home and researched this wonderful new medium and found so many talented women. Christy TomlinsonJunelle Jacobson, Donna Downey, Danielle Donaldson, Jane Davenport, Tamara Laporte and Danita

The world of art opened up to me again! I wanted to know more about the materials and process they used, so i started taking some of their online classes. It was so exciting to be inspired again!!! I've enjoyed learning from their techniques. Their art has encouraged me to introduce more traditional media into my digital illustrations. I have also found a joy in watercoloring!

Art has and will always be an important part of my life. Between the pages of my sketchbook, some gesso and washes of color, i have been able to improve on my own creative process and experience a joy through art.

Thank you so much for joining me! I would love to hear what artist has inspired you!:)
