Writing
Journal Prompt:
Words with Friends

I'm still not very comfortable with my own handwriting so
I decided to incorporate words using some old book paper. I tore up pieces and glued them down with Matte Medium. I also stamped the word Friendship around my page.

I watered down some Gesso and applied a light coat over the
words to lighten them and make them appear in the background.
I then used my Micron pen and drew some doodles

I just recently bought some Inktense Pencils by Derwent and couldn't wait to use them. Thought this was a perfect opportunity to try them out. I applied a light amount of color to each petal. Then i used a wet watercolor brush on them to activate the color. As soon as i added the water, intense and vibrant colors appeared. I absolutely love them!

And here is my finished journal page.  After adding color, i decided to stop there and keep it simple!

The Documented Life Project-Week 3

I love this weeks art challenge-COLOR. Color has a funny way of setting a mood and creating a feeling. I love to surround myself with color when i need to find creativity. A box full of pencils, pastels, markers and even some paint dabs on a palette make all the difference!

The Color Wheel
Journal Prompt:
"I found I could say things with color and shapes
that I couldn’t say any other way . . . “    - Georgia O’Keeffe

For this challenge i created a background using some acrylic paints and a brush. I then made a light wash of gesso and water and applied it over the paint to tone down the color a bit.I added some text with a stamp i purchased from Michaels and swirls using a stamp set by rhonna farrer.

I cut out circles from an old book page and glued them down with
Matte Medium. I added color to the circles with gelatos and used a black china pencil to draw around the circles. I also added
some text with a sharpie pen.

I printed out the saying on vellum using my inkjet printer. To make sure the text would not smear, I sprayed it with some workable fixative, then applied it to my page using Matte Medium.

To finish it off i added some texture using Golden's Titanium White acrylic paint!

Gesso
Journal Prompt:
“The beginning is always today.” -Mary Shelley

I glued down some Tim Holtz idea-ology paper using Matte Medium

I brushed on some gesso over my paper. I used a palette knife because i like the texture the gesso creates.

I then cut out some paper elements and glued them down using some
more Matte Medium

I drew some doodles using a sharpie pen. For texture i used some stencils and acrylic paint. To finish it off i added
more gesso using a palette knife.

And here is the final piece! Having so much fun and looking forward
to the new prompt!

New Year New Beginnings!

I am loving the mixed media artwork that i have found through the internet. There is so much creativity that flows when I see all the beautiful, creative and expressive work out there. Mixed media allows a sense of freedom that I really would like to be a part of.

So i found "The Original Documented Life Project™  The Journal presented by Art to the 5th in 2015".

Each month they will have a "theme" and each week they will issue an art related challenge as well as a fun and creative journal prompt!
And best of all it's absolutely FREE! How great is that.I've already ordered my journal and will be posting my first entry here.
